I know there are plenty of websites that have them but some seem a bit odd to be from the south. Does anyone have some real, authentic recipes that you know for sure are from the south? What are some real southern food recipes? I just moved to the south, and I am looking for some recipes of real southern foods. Dishes that have been cooked by many southern generations. Collard greens and soul food/southern cooking?? I have been involved with many different races and my fiance is black. We usually cook stuff like porkchops, mac & cheese and rice or change up the meat to hamburger steak. This weekend I asked him if he wanted something different cause we were going to the grocery store (we live together) he said he wanted some black eyed peas....I was like....WHOA!!!! But I asked my mom and she told me how to cook them and my fiance loved them...I also fixed some corn bread, bbq ribs, mac & cheese and deviled eggs, his response was dang now I know you can cook soul food this needs to be a every Sunday thing. Long story I know but next week he wants collard greens but neither one of us know how and my mom only cooks them outta the can. So please help me. I need a good recipe. Southern Style Cooking? My very long term boyfriend and I are having our first ever thanksgiving at our home. His grandmother usually does it ever year but she passed away a couple of months ago. Help! Thanksgiving rookie cooking for 10 ......Need advice quick!? I am planning my first ever Thanksgiving dinner & if that isn't enough, my boyfriends family will be mixing with mine! Southern Girl vegetarian needs "Good" recipes !!!!!!? Well I've been a vegetarian going on three months now and I must say i do love it but I miss some of the foods that I use to eat. I miss the cabbage and collard greens and dressings.Me being raised a meat eater from the south, I have absolutely no other knowledge of how to cook this stuff without meat. Regarding Food Network personality Paula Deen: Does her incredibly thick Southern drawl kinda BUG YOU? I come from the Southwest but have lived all over the U.S., so I am accustomed to many different accents and am not particularly judgemental about the way people talk. But people in the North sometimes make fun of people from the South with thick accents...and visa versa. If you watch The Food Network, you may know who Paula Deen is. She specializes in southern cooking, hailing from Georgia. But when she opens her big ol' Southern pie hole, I would swear she is purposely going overboard with her accent just to play a character. And it kinda bugs me. Does it bug you?
